I’ll never forget the first day of every Communication class I took in college. After rushing to the third floor of the Fine Arts Building (I have the uncanny ability of arriving precisely 4 seconds before the bell rings), I would sit down and engage in small talk with the classmates I hadn’t seen in several weeks. Once the class officially started, the drill was always the same: the professor welcomes the students back, gives a brief overview of what we will be learning, and asks the students to introduce themselves to the rest of the class. Since only the elite few chose to study Communication at Bob Jones University, we heard the same introductions many times. Everyone already knew that Ethan aspired to attend law school, that David was from Kansas City, and that I loved Star Wars…a lot.
Although I hope that some day people I’ve never met will read this blog, I anticipate that most of you already know me. You’ve heard me stand up in this class called Life to tell everyone one interesting fact about myself. But for those of you who may not know me very well, I’m Justin, and here are a few words to describe me.
Jesus came to earth in human form to live perfectly, die agonizingly, rise victoriously, and save miraculously. I believe that He heals not only my brokenness, but the brokenness of the entire world, and I live to make much of His name.
Buffalo is the city that flows with two things: chicken wings (please note the proper name for wings) and desperate sports’ fans. I love the city that I grew up in, and I love the Bills and Sabres even more. This is our year. I can feel it.
God established the local church to be His means of pushing back the darkness in specific areas all over the world. I moved to Northeast Philadelphia on April 30th, 2015 to join Grace City Church of the Northeast in their effort to make disciples in the Fox Chase/Five Points area by planting a church.
Most of my extra cash goes to books: old books, new books, fat books, and skinny books. I love to read John Piper, John Calvin, and any other theologian with something worth saying. Right now, I’m reading Precious Remedies against Satan’s Devices by Thomas Brooks and Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone by J.K. Rowling.
I love my beard. I care for it every morning with Simply Great Beard Oil for those who are curious.
